This was more of a scripted event the dragon could only swoop down on specific areas, like bridges populated by arrow shooting enemies in the background. In between pelting them with fire arrows, it was possible to call in the dragon at points where a dragon icon popped up in the middle of the screen. One stage featured sprawling mountainous vistas capped with dirt paths on which massive ogre's tread. You'll not only be on your own through the game's 12 - 15 hour length, you'll also get to control your dragon, Saphira, to a degree. To further help you out, the game supports drop in co-operative play, meaning a second player can pick up a controller at any time and take control of whoever's helping Eragon at the time. Once maxed, your health and magic get refilled and gain temporary invincibility.
Knocking out foes with magical attacks and fists yields orbs that, when collected, fill up a special meter. Backgrounds were more impressive than the characters themselves, with angled cliffs jutting across the tops of sunsets, setting off luminous glare effects. The action played out on a number of wooden platforms and planked walkways, with groups of several enemies attacking at once. This was especially evident in an expansive stage where we were tasked with defending groups of Varden. A number of characters can be drawn onscreen at a time. This can be switched to at any time, effective for knocking out foes at a distance before you engage in melee content. You'll also have a bow and arrow that can be fired or enhanced with magical effects. As you progress through each of the game's stages you'll get more powerful attacks and combos. Once an opponent is grabbed, you'll have the option of continuing to pummel them, toss the enemy into each other or off cliffs.
Basic punches and kicks could be linked into grapple moves. The first level, in Carvahall, had Eragon battling alongside Bron in a saloon and showcased the game's melee and magic attacks. We got to see a few stages from the game, getting a glimpse of its third-person action gameplay and some expansive environments. With the help of friends like Brom and Murtaugh, Eragon manages to learn the ways of the world as well as make his way through each of the game's 16 levels. Despite Saphira's strength, Eragon still needs help to survive. Since Eragon is trying to fulfill his fate as a Dragon Rider, he's in a somewhat precarious postion. The world Eragon and his dragon inhabit is wracked with war, as the rebellious Varden strive against Galbatorix's desire to see the Dragon Riders once and for all destroyed.
